Less restrictions on rebates for solar hot water on local government buildings

BC Climate Exchange

The Provincial SolarBC rebate is now no longer restricted to just one system per local government. This opens the doors for local governments to apply for the Provincial rebate for multiple solar hot water projects.

Funding of these rebates for local governments is allocated on a first come first serve basis, and SolarBC has a limited budget. Given the sizes of the projects currently being submitted, it is estimated that SolarBC has funding available for approximately 30 local government solar hot water projects in total. SolarBC presently has commitments for over half of the rebates.

Local Governments have to apply for the NRCan ecoENERGY for Renewable Heat incentive to qualify for the SolarBC incentive. The deadlines for the ecoENERGY incentive are: October 1st 2010 for receipt of applications, and December 31st 2010 for solar hot water project commissioning. It is important that local governments apply as soon as possible to meet these deadlines.  NRCan and SolarBC commitment for funding has to be in place prior to the start of installations.

The SolarBC incentive matches the ecoENERGY incentive to a maximum of $40,000 per installation.
